A little over a week ago, a young man I know lost his father in a tragic accident. It was traumatic for all who knew him, but especially this boy. Today, I saw him for the first time since the funeral arrangements. He stopped by to talk to me, asked how I was, and when he left, he pressed my shoulder, so much like an adult. In that moment, it felt like he was comforting me, when it should have been the other way around. I can only hope that by reaching out to him, I gave something in return.
That’s what this life is all about…these precious moments when we hold each other up and catch each other when we fall. Sam O’Malley in “All the Little Things” understands what so many of us have to learn. Hold on to the little things. They are a part of you and will change you forever.
