As we all feel the wonder of the Christmas season or get caught up in the hustle and the bustle, I’ve been thinking about what matters most. The older I get, the more I realize that it truly is all the little things. Snowflakes on my tongue, Christmas lights twinkling in the snow and lighting up the night, my Christmas tree as a beacon that welcomes me in homecoming, an angel from a friend with my name on it just because or a witch’s hat to tuck away for Halloween because it will go perfectly with my outfit for next year. Simple, random acts of kindness, a hug, a smile, a cheering committee…curling up on the couch with a good book or watching a Christmas classic with my husband and son. Being caught up in “The Sound of Music” as it carries me back to childhood as my mother stroked my hair and we were swept away by the songs and an amazing, love story. I hope the magic finds you this year and all through the year as you remember the true reason for the season. If you have moments when you are down or times are dark, think like Sam O’Malley in my novel, get out a piece of paper and make a list of all of the little things that are so special in your life. You’ll find that you have more than you knew. May your cup runneth over!
